Maths that makes sense again, one small triangle at a time.
Good to know: your tutor is an AI (a computer program), not a person.
Just your first name, please. No surname needed.
Pick a few. Your tutor will use them in examples.
Your details stay on this device unless you make an account.
When you chat, your messages (and any photos of your work you choose to send) go to the AI tutor (Claude, made by Anthropic) so it can reply.
Please don't share personal details like your surname, address, school or phone number.
Optional: make a free account to keep your hexagon safe and use it on any device. You can do this later in Settings.

Your progress for GCSE and NCEA is saved separately on this device.

If you use the app without an account (guest): your first name (or nickname), course (GCSE or NCEA), year group, interests and progress are saved only in your browser on this device. We can't see them.
If you make an account (optional): - Email address and password: to log you in. This is handled by Netlify Identity (Netlify is our web host). We never see your password. - First name, course, year group and interests: so the tutor can talk to you by name and use examples you like. - Your hexagon progress and the dates you earned levels (and whether a photo was part of that session). - Short notes about past sessions: which puzzles and practice questions you've already had on each topic, so the tutor doesn't repeat itself. - How many sessions you started today: to apply the daily limit (10 a day).
This is saved by Netlify in a private record in Frankfurt, Germany. Only you can open it, by logging in.
We ask for the least we can. Please don't share your surname, address, school or phone number in the chat.
If you tell the tutor something that suggests you might not be safe, the app shows the "Need someone to talk to?" panel. It also saves a small note on your device (the date, course and topic, no message text). Our server's log records that a safety alert happened, with the course and topic, but no names and no message text.
The app doesn't use tracking or advertising cookies. It uses your browser's local storage to remember your details, progress and (if you log in) your login, and session storage to keep the current chat until you close the tab.
The app is for secondary school students. To make an account you tick a box to say you're 13 or older, or that a parent or carer has said it's OK. Parents and carers are welcome to email us with any questions.
You can: - See your information: it's shown in the app (your name and hexagon). You can also email us for a copy. - Correct it: Settings › Change my name, year or interests. - Delete it: Settings › "Delete my account and everything in it" deletes your saved record and your login straight away. As a guest, Settings › "Delete everything on this device". Or email us.
Please email us first at ilovemaths.support@gmail.com and we'll try to sort it out. If you're not happy with our answer you can complain to: - UK: the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint - New Zealand: the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, privacy.org.nz/your-rights/making-a-complaint
If we change how we use your information, we'll update this notice and the date at the top.
You don't have to deal with this on your own.
Thank you for saying something. Talking to an adult you trust, like a parent, carer or teacher, is a really good next step.
The maths can wait. Come back whenever you're ready.
Your tutor will mark it step by step. Hold the page flat in good light, and make sure no names or personal details are showing.
Photos are sent to the AI tutor but never stored by the app.
Take photos of your work and your tutor will find it on your hexagon, tell you what went well, and pick one thing to explore together.
Hold each page flat in good light, and cover any names. Photos are sent to the AI tutor but never stored by the app.
We only ask for an email and password. No public profile, no surname, no school. Your progress is private to you.
